"z" - Re: removeable galvanized steel posts in concrete sidewalk-- how to?? - Thanks! This sounds as if it would work. This solution would have the benefit that the concrete can be poured immediately and the remainder of the design could be deferred until later in the summer when there's more time to plan. The notion of diagonal bracing at the tops of the posts is reminiscent to me of late 19th century barns or horse stalls. I hadn't given it a lot of th...

We don't have to, but since we get paid time AND materials... ;) Japanese architecture, and the traditional carpentry, are extremely standardized. The layout takes into account tile size, tatami mats, etc. Wouldn't it be nice to tile a floor where _no_ cuts would...

"Doggus" - Cedar post fence post blocks - I put up some 6"x6"x8' cedar columns on our home over the weekend and the wife was so thrilled with the look she wants me to do the backyard fence with the same cedar posts. I was not thrilled with her idea as these suckers cost $51 per. I'm wondering if this is feasible: auger a hole and pour a concrete column resulting in a 2-4 inch portion above ground to mount the cedar timber...

"Bobk207" - Re: half circuit - By know I hope that the doubters in this group have realized that P. Fritz was correct. Perhaps not about the vibration per se but an overload downsteam can cause a marginal connection in the circuit to fail. Either by mechanical or electrial means; seen this many times. "stretch" - Re: Wiring behind shower shell? - Dave, Make sure there are no hidden junction boxes or splices behind the shower stall. All splices need to be in junction boxes and they need to be accessible by code. I believe that you can staple the wires to the studs if there wil not be any further access to the studs that could cause damage to the wires. If the fiberglass does not touch the wires, that is. Stretch...
