"William S. Harley" - tips for laying a floor? - I am thinking about installing 12" x 12" vinyl composite floor tiles in my basement and am looking for tips. It is a 25'x25' room with a large 3'x3' column in the center. It has some old asphalt/asbestos tiles that are secure. The area around the column was dug up during a recent renovation for a new footing, so it is fresh concrete. That area will need to be raised to the level of ...

Robert Drake - Unusual walls in 1920s house - I was looking through a "fixer upper" here in Victoria BC today, and noticed something odd about all the walls in this 1925 house. They were all made of some sort of fibre board. Not a plaster wall in the place. I didn't notice until I saw a hole drilled into one of the walls as saw it was "wood". Then rapped my knuckles onto all the walls, and they all had that hollow wood echo. S...

"butch burton" - Re: Spray vs brush painting Hardi Board siding - Thanks - will get pre primed HB siding. I suppose you get a narrow roller for 4" wide strips. I would think it would require a brush to get into the cornersand the overlapping edge. Were you able to get into the corners with just a roller or did you have to use a brush also. Thanks again. . ...

tbasc@bellsouth.net - Re: Puddle on a Rubber Roof - I agree. Fixing this kind of roof without background information and experience is asking for trouble. If it were my roof, I'd call the manufacturer and ask about possible problems from standing water. If you don't know the manufacturer, you can't find compatible materials. Navy had trouble with local maintenance crews "fixing" single ply roofs with non compatible stuff. TB ...
