The price in our area is significantly higher than for shingled, but the homeowner has all the problems associated with "walk-up" hip vented roofs: improper ventilation, resulting in mold. Contractor #1 low-balled the others but will not take off the unvented soffits, even though he claims he's going to replace ALL the plywo... |

That's kind of a big deal, is the more usable basement going to be worth the money and effort ? Here's a pictorial history from some fellow who did it. http://www.k2ah.com/house/jackinghouse.html Assuming the house is frame, not brick ? I sympathize, half my basement has a ceiling suitable for trolls, the other half gives me about 3" clearance. . ... |

I want to go with a variable rate mortgage for as long as possible, but have a trigger point figured out in advance which would tell us it's time to convert to a fixed rate mortgage, or at least review the issue. I know that there's a bit of an art to that, but does anyone have any suggestions or comments on how they... |

As I knew this person prior to renting out the room I did not collect a security deposit nor did I make him/her sign a rental agreement / lease. The other day while talking to a friend I mentioned this and they mentioned how dangerous that could be to me. I asked why, and they said that if I ever wanted... |

If you're in love with the house ideally you'd want to have the roof inspected by a reputable roofing contractor before even making an offer. If you can't do that, make the offer contingent on inspection in the normal manner but make sure the wording lets you stick it to the seller, or back out.
