This will be my very first deal with a contractor (although I did pay a GC to do an inspection/bid when I bought the house)! It's a complete tear off and there's considerable dryrot repair needed. It's getting close to the rainy season, but a foundation contractor just told me he suspects materials costs will skyrocket by t... |

The old deck was relatively structurally sound -- very little, if any, rot. (the wall behind the ledger board, left unflashed, was another story). The builder didn't seem to take any precautions at all other than using PT lumber, and the deck seemed fine after 25 years (we wanted a larger deck with a stairw... |

Dragged out the end to set on top of plywood on sawhorses. Measured to length plus little for poor measurement on either side. Used framing square to mark to either marked end. Cut to length easily using standard utility knife, with sharp blade. More than one pass may be needed. Width is similar using more marks if lengthy. Wear latex ... |

Here is a picture: http://www.tools-plus.com/sta10-113.html I still prefer using a very large old Chicago brand butcher knife. I sharpen it with a belt sander and/or file. This will save you from problems in the future. -- JerryD(upstateNY) "Jim in PA" |

Roxul salesman once gave us cheap serrated bread knives, never tried it but should work. Carpet or lino knife sounds like a good choice also. "RicodJour" |
