"as4603" - Re: Good Garage Door Opener ? - You may want to check out Wayne-Dalton's I-Drive an innovative design that came out about 2 years ago, have it on mine 2 years and have had no trouble. It installs above the garage door, and pulls the garage up using wires that are wound around drums at the end of a rod. It does away with the installation of a unit in the center of your garage and looks a lot neater. However it does not ...

"Joe" - Re: geothermal energy - Canada - If you have a lot of tree around, how about using a wood fired boiler ? I don't know how much time you want to spend on getting a supply of wood for the winter. If you have time and they are cutting timber nearby, the tree tops are left in the woods and probably free for the taking. (get permission, of course) Or I am sure people will sell you already cut and split firewood in large ...

"Steve Wetzel" - Deck around a fireplace vent - We are building a deck around a fireplace vent on the rear of our home. Not sure if we are going to use wood or synthetic materials yet. How far away from the fireplace vent must I stay to be safe? We would like to build the deck just below the vent. I am thinking that should be safe as the heat rises. Are there any rules of thumbs here? Steve . ...

Boat_dreams - Re: Installing fiber-cement siding around/over gas/electric pipes - If there's a union handy, shut off the utility and fire up your hole saw for the cleanest fitup. Otherwise, hole saw first, then slot in with the circular saw. Save your dropoff and screw it back in place using a c. 22 ga. galvanized backing plate. Blend the surface with any "cementitious patching compound" per www.hardie.com. Good luck, Boat_dreams ---------------------- Dave...
