If there's a union handy, shut off the utility and fire up your hole saw for the cleanest fitup. Otherwise, hole saw first, then slot in with the circular saw. Save your dropoff and screw it back in place using a c. 22 ga. galvanized backing plate. Blend the surface with any "cementitious patching compound" per www.hardie.com.
