"wpty" - AZEK Trim Nailing - We used AZEK on the exterior trim and used stainless steel nails. The boards were fine to work with, and quick install. But, the stainless steel nails against the white trim are an eyesore. It looks like we have 2 choices... paint the whole board (which we hoped to avoid by using AZEK) or spot paint each nail. Any Suggestions out there... . ...

"69strat" - New road put in next to us- water issues - Recently the builder actually built the road up and poured it. We are now a corner lot. They really did a number here on us. They built it up very high (about 3.5' higher than my land) and my back and side yard, that runs adjacent to the road, now is very low and sunk in. the ground from the street slopes down steep to my yard. It rained Saturday, and my backyard was a lake, even thou...

maarass@hotmail.com - Re: HWH leaking - Thanks for the reply Steve. There's nothing like what you describe. I olny have one shut off valve before the HWH which I requested. It's NOT a check valve just a shut off. I'm still not sure if these's a BFP 800' away in the meter pit. So if I don't have a BFP then would that mean my problem is not related to pressure ? . ...

"Steven" - Re: proper window installation - I may have to try that. I'm not completely sold on housewrap. Not much can beat felt. I've pulled off siding that has been on for 40 yrs, and the felt behind it looked as good as new. Time will tell if the housewrap is as durable. S. "Steven" - - If all see is the supply line coming into the basement that feeds the rest of your system, you probably do not have a BFP. You would see a series of shut-off valves with a short contraption between them if you had one. That would be cheaper, right? Good products. The 4'x8' (or 10') panels would be the fastest and cheapest. Might not be the look you're after, though. To provide specific answers we need the specifics. In future, give more infor...

"Steven" - Re: HWH leaking - Do you have a backflow preventer on your main line? If so, you need an expansion tank. As the pressure builds, the check valve on the BFP won't allow the pressure to be returned down line back into the water system. Even if you don't have a BFP, you may still need an exp.tank. We've had the problem before where a valve would pop off during middle of the night. It was a mystery a...

M&S - Anyone used/applied any borate wood treatments? - Hello all, I am in the process of finishing the timberframe for a 28 x 50 garage. I am thinking for simple insurance (green timber of course) of spraying the frame with a borate wood treatment once we hit dry in. Have any of you used any of the commercially available concentrates/wettable powders? I have been looking at Timbor or Boracare and thought perhaps some of you may have ...

"butch burton" - Re: HWH leaking - Water pressure in a city system can be all over the place - can be a huge range as another poster pointed out - replumbed a former house of mine overe the weekend - w baths, sprinkler system and it was easy. IIRC the pressure reducing valve cost about $40. Copper is easy to cut/sweat - a plumber would charge you plenty though. Easy to replace the relief valve also - they just screw o...
