"Peter Shepherd" - Re: Airspace When Insulating Inside of Solid Masonry Wall? - The wall isn't now & never has been insulated. It's in poor condition, today I'm adding painted steel lintel above fallen [happened when I removed brick mold to bring window into plane with brick, as window was tilted > 1" inwards] straight keyed 'arch' in outer wyth, and inner wythe below window could rock completely loose [unless braced] as I remove window in order to grind clea...

ransley@webtv.net (m Ransley) - Re: Adding a basement to a house with a crawl space - You emailed me I sent you an answer , the short is yes I dug to the foundation, I used jacks for support and have a large concrete patio that water could not reach the house and I monitored it continualy, poured a footer, had it inspected, then finished and had it inspected. Got occupancy permit. If the inspectors find out and it wasn`t passed they could make you redo it to the footer, t...

"GLT" - Re: Concrete footing or not? - 99% of decks built in So. Calif. are redwood, with pressure treated framing..and depending on the area, soil is usually clay..unless the OP is very close to the ocean, or in the desert. Beams, min. 4X4, 4X6's are better @ 8' oc. get bolted, and or nailed to the piers, joist's, min. 2X6's get nailed to the beams, deck boards get Screwed to the joist's. Where's the loss of rigidty..? ...

Peter James - Re: Airspace When Insulating Inside of Solid Masonry Wall? - Is the wall currently insulated? Has it been insulated at any time during its life? In a climate subject to prolonged cold periods, many uninsulated older walls "work" because of the continual heat flow from the interior to the exterior. This heat flow has the unintended effect of keeping the bulk of the wall relatively warm. If you insulate with R10 styrofoam you'll likely cau...

"clintonG" - Re: Best CAD program for architects? - Hello John, Does Graphisoft's ArchiCAD support web development? Autodesk has subverted and corrupted AutoCAD/ADT to obstruct, hinder, and prevent the use of the products with the web in any way other than the so-called features they stuff into the box, features that are all too often dysfunctional or do not function at all. The draftability of Autodesk's products remain good ...

No problemo. AFIC CA was and is (I trust on the basis of your comments) still one of the industry's unsung heros for preliminary architectural design phase and can for residential builders be used throughout the entire project if detailing is not ...
