"AustinScoobee" - Copper pipe repair - Hi everyone. This should be obvious, isnt yet to me (ok not much is :P). We had a puncture in 1/2" copper pipe, how it happened is for the humor forums, but I just wondered , how do you sweat in a fix? Since you need to slide both ends 1/2" into those little union fittings, yet the pipe doesnt telescope, or move, how is it to be done? Do they plumb around it? Do they use some specia...

"Lil' Dave" - Re: Structural/forensic engineer in Chicago? - Guessing the following is what you're referring to as "my post below": HI! we have a contract to buy a house. We had it inspected yesterday by a very professional gentleman from a reputable firm here in Chicago. One major issue popped out: cracks in the mortar and misaligned bricks on a corner of the outside wall where the 3rd floor floor meets the wall. Affected area is12X4 in. I beli...

"Steven G." - Re: Contractor contract percentage - The "markups" seem to be inline with the Northern VA area. Get your own lawyer to read the contract. Move on if the builder will not be willing to modify the contract. If he is in your area, call Bruce of Gainesville Construction 703-898-8221. He can do top notch work. "GlidesWithEase" - Structural/forensic engineer in Chicago? - Hi, I'm looking for a reputable engineer/firm in Chicago. See my post below for a background to our situation. Seller has now agreed to pay for an engineer _of_our_choosing_ to inspect building. We have no obligation towards seller, since we exercised the right to void our contract. At issue is whether there is ongoing structural movement, whether the cracks in the mortar took on wa...
