Andrew - good quality screens - Hi All, I'm looking for some quality window screens. The screens I buy today at my glass supply place barely last 1 or 2 years in my rentals. These screens are not cheap - they are standard quality and cost about twenty bucks for a 20 x 30 screen. Interestingly, I've got some rentals that were originally built in the 1940's - I've had them 25 years and the original screens are ...

"Dan" - small sink hole in backyard - I have a customer who hired me to fill in a hole in their backyard with dirt. OK so now they say they want me to come back and put some big rocks in this time and then smaller rocks on top and then dirt. They think there might be an underground stream. We first thought there was some voids which the construction co. left because they tossed some unused blocks or concrete in a hole and co...

tbasc@bellsouth.net - Re: Soil & Water Erosion Caused Damage to Garage and Backyard. - The control of run off is, by common civil engineering practice, if not law, the responsiblility of the land owner. Check with your local building department or engineering department. This is not a fool proof route, but it is a start. You may be asked for a report or survey by a licensed civil engineer or registered land surveyor. Many years ago, we had a similar problem which was so...

"clintonG" - Soil & Water Erosion Caused Damage to Garage and Backyard. - I could tell the whole story but basically I'm looking for articles, references to case law or personal testimony from those who have lived next to a neighbor who neglected to restrain their soil and their water runoff which neglected over time resulted in structural damage to the garage or other structures on the adjoining adversely affected property. Your comments and referrals? ...

jim@here.now - Sump pump help needed - I have a curtain drain in the yard that runs into a 5 ft deep cement box with a sump pump in it. The 1.5 PVC pipe that was connected to it ran about 150ft. to a ditch and did not have a continuous drop, it went up and down causing a lot of water to run back into the sump pump box and hold water in the pipe also it made the pump run more often. I replaced the PVC pipe with 3in. pipe an...

dps - Re: Water Volume of 30 inch culvert?? - So, to satisfy the curiosity of all the fluff generators, are you using the culvert as a cistern for water storage? An opaque goldfish tank? The question did not specify water, but the subject line did, so I would suppose you're not going to store oil or milk or some other fluid. And why the specific dimensions? Is this something you just happen to have found in a corner of the kitc...

"bhads" - drain in foundation trench? - Hi all, I've dug up a 1m deep trench for an extended wall to my house, but found a 150mm dia. foul drain which runs from side to side about 200mm up from the bottom of the trench. The foundations are meant to be 600mm in depth. I'm going to get the concrete poured in one go but was wandering what the procedure is to protect the drain from the additional weight on it from both the ...
