"Chris W" - Re: Huge privacy wall around property - Thanks everybody for your helpful information & feedback... A couple clarifications: When I say "we want to build" that means "we want to pay somebody who knows what they're doing, a fair price to build it" :) And the wall wouldn't go around the whole lot....just the back stretch and about halfway up the sides....the site is about 145 x 275...so a little less than an acre....

"harry palmer" - I need to remove a fluorescant light fittting but cant get into it, can anyone help please????? - I'm fighting a battle with a fluorescent light. I'm trying to replace the whole thing BUT I can't see how it's attached to the ceiling. It's just a metal box about 5' long with the electrical contacts that you put the tube into at each end. There are no screws or claps to undo just a metal box. It seems like the bottom of the box ( the one facing the tube) should come away but I've tried...

"Tecumseh" - concrete foundation question - Hey, I have a leak when it rains hard and I pulled back the insulation to find a round opening the size of re-bar that has its concrete "cap" off. I imagine I have to fill this void and am wondering what type of caulking or whatever to use? Thanks Take Care Tec . ...

"Dave" - Dishwasher Electrical Hookup? - I am installing a dishwasher. I bought a pigtail that is all gray in color, flat cable with 3 wire and plug connected. It is a GE plug for dishwasher hookup. I know the green wire goes to ground on the dishwasher. The other two wires are both copper in color. And the housing is gray. The difference is that one wire has groves on the coating and the other does not. Which one goes...

"Nehmo Sergheyev" - Re: Huge privacy wall around property - - JerryD(upstateNY) - > Will the town/city allow you to build a 6' wall around the lot ? - Nehmo - I don't know what OP's situation is in Eastern Washington; maybe he lives in the sticks. But municipalities around Kansas City seem to be enacting a 6' height limit on the sides and a 4' on the frontage. Corner lots are considered to have two frontages. The idea of shotcrete (spra...

"AutoTracer" - Re: Huge privacy wall around property - I thought an acre would need more wall....... Anyway, if you are not budget constrained and determined to build a 6' rampart around your castle. I would pour a wall into a form (similar to a giant foundation) then veneer it with a stone face or brick to match the character of the land. In the end, a prefab/precast sections might be just as economical and you may be able to get it in...

"AutoTracer" - Re: Which is better? crawl space or basement cellar? - A full basement without a doubt. You can convert it into livable space if desired and increase the home value especially to families with lots of storage needs. A crawlspace is useless for anything but accessing the pipes. I have never seen a crawlspace over a finished slab, seems like a waste. Basements are often cooler in the summer too, try chilling out in your crawlspace. Ar...

frippletoot@hotmail.com - Re: J D Power ratings? - IMO those are not very helpful. They're kind of like the BBB ratings--if they indicate there's a problem there is a problem, but if they say everything's peachy, it is possibly misleading. Most new home surveys don't accurately reflect how a home really holds up over the first few years, which is when the majority of significant problems surface. New home buyers are in almost a honeym...

"Chris W" - Huge privacy wall around property - Hi. Just looking for some thoughts / feedback.... We want to build a 6 foot wall around most of the perimeter of our 1-acre lot...I figure about 450-475 linear feet. The site is very level, with easy access, lots of room for machinery, cleared, etc... Don't know if we should do pre-cast concrete wall sections, pour it in-place, stucco, or some other product. Does anyb...
