Mikey - Load bearing wall? - Hello, I read the previous posts on this subject so I'll try and be precise as possible. I have a room above a garage that I want to install double french doors. The opening at the moment is 32" doorway with no door, so I will be extending the opening to 60". The doorway comes off a 4' 6" wide hallway. I checked the garage below the hallway and I can see a large beam that spans the len...

"Jim Phelps" - Re: Ceramic tile over linoleum? - Sure it canbe done, but I would not recommend it. The base needs to be stable and the ceramic will be at the mercy of the stability of the linoleum and it's bond. Ceramic tile is best laid over concrete or a concrete backer board so that the thinset gets maximum adhesion over a stable surface. Robert Allison - Selection schedule - I had a great selection schedule that I presented to clients when preparing for a construction poject. It had multiple items for selections to be made, and spaces to write in the selections, sizes, etc. I have changed computers, and I seem to have lost it. I have made up a few for recent clients, but all seem to be lacking and I am tired of improving on them. Anybody hav...

"stretch" - Re: HVAC and remodeling kitchen - Putting toe space grills in houses with A/C and a basement or crawlspace can be a mistake. Normally, the duct is attached to the floor under the cabinet under the cabinet. This pressurizes the space under the cabinet with cold air. The subfloor under the cabinet assumes supply air temperature. If there is any humidity in the crawlspace or basement, moisture will condense on the...

"Alexander Galkin" - HVAC and remodeling kitchen - I am going to remodel my kitchen. Currently there is only one forced air A/C duct in the kitchen in the wall near the floor. This wall will be covered by cabinets as well as all other available kitchen walls. Where is the best place to relocate the only existing duct I have? I see the only place for it is to move it higher above top cabinets. I also plan to add a couple of more duct...

"Jim Phelps" - Re: Trouble running CAT5 cables for my old house? - Go through closets to minimize drywall cutting. Or you could by a very long drill bit that Electricians sometimes have for this purpose.
