It appears that either five or six steps could be appropriate. Five steps gives me an 8" riser; six steps gives 6.67". The 8" riser would indicate a tread of about 9 to 10 inches, I believe. For the 6.67" riser, a tread of about 10-3/4" seems appropriate, according to one formula I have s... |

He would not approve sistering as the supporting post midway underneath the original glulam beam would not be underneath the sister beam. His only suggestion was to design and fabricate two metal plates 23 feet long on each side of the existing glulam and to weld hangers to one of the plates to support the floor joists. Seems... |

The rotted section is ~40% of the full beam., with that much rot I'd think you would need to sister the entire beam. You've got to be sure all the rot got PES. What does the CoLA building dept want? I assume you need a repair plan stamped by an SE or CE. If you cannot find one to do the job for you, I know several who can take... |

We have already treated the existing beam with Smith&Co CPES this week. It works beautifully - though very expensive. I highly recommend it. The beam is completely protected and surrounded.
