"Magnusfarce" - Painting Pavers ? - I'm installing a low retaining wall in the back yard using the "do it yourself" retaining wall bricks that are made of concrete (paver) material. The problem is that the only ones that I can get are a mix of charcoal and bright "paver" red, the latter of which is too bright for my taste. There's no easy way to order the darker, charcoal ones that I want. I've decided to put a very ligh...

tarakparekh@yahoo.com - Hardwood floors in the bathroom - Hello, We had recently visited an old house which had hardwood floors in the bathroom on the 2nd floor. Whilst taking a shower some water must have splashed out of the shower curtain, and the wallpaper on the ceiling on the first floor got damaged. I am just wondering as to what might have caused water to go through the hardwood floors to damage the wallpaper. Any thoughts? ...

"don h" - Re: Lamp-post light flickers (insane feedback loop) - Why not consider one of those photo sensor switches that are very inexpensive (around $10) and very reliable. They will turn on your lamp-post light at dusk and off at dawn. Installation is also simple. Also consider using a compact fluorescent bulb...my Sylvania bulbs last a year. "Doc Savage" - Re: whole house fan in new construction - The main reason I didn't have the builder install the fan for me was because: (1) they could give me an exact location of where the fan would be located and (2) they would use an inferior (small) 28 to 30" fan, (3) I had no control over the switch placement and (4) they wanted like $500 for this option. So I figured could remedy all of these for about $400 and still pay them just $100 f...

roger61611@yahoo.com - Re: whole house fan in new construction - If it's a non-custom builder they will throw a fit. If you take the fan up there they'll take it out or tell you to come and get it, sling or no. IMO the best approach would be to pay them to frame for it and wire a outlet and switch for you. . ...

"Doc Savage" - whole house fan in new construction - My father wants me to haul the massive 42" whole house fan into the attic just before drywall goes up in my home under construction. We are dealing with a non-custom builder who isn't very flexible on most things. My dad says that if I hang the fan onto the roof rafters where it is out of the way, nobody should care (it'll be out of the way of the insulation guys) and it will sav...

"Doc Savage" - Whole House Fan with inadequate venting (NFA net free area) - So I am planning on adding a large whole house fan to my new home. The house has 13 roof vents and 13 under eave vents. I might have 6 sq. ft NFA between them all, which is quite good for a new home, but probably not the 18 NFA reccomended for the Mongo 42" 1/2 hp fan I will be adding. I think the fan is rated at like 11000 CFM. My question is: whats the real risk of adding this ...
