Whole House Fan with inadequate venting (NFA net free area)

So I am planning on adding a large whole house fan to my new home. The house has 13 roof vents and 13 under eave vents. I might have 6 sq. ft NFA between them all, which is quite good for a new home, but probably not the 18 NFA reccomended for the Mongo 42" 1/2 hp fan I will be adding. I think the fan is rated at like 11000 CFM. My question is: whats the real risk of adding this fan (for limited use, 30 minutes here, there -- on a timer) without adding additional NFA ventilation? Is the worst case that the fan could burn up quicker? It seems like every home I have ever owned had a whimpy WW fan, and typically like 3 vents on the roof -- and they always seemed to work "ok". Would I be any worse with this arrangement? I'm not opposed to adding more roof vents, but just wanted to know if its really worse the additional expense. Anyone know what this should cost to hire out? Roof is asphalt shingles. . |
