ceraboy@yahoo.com - Re: Info to backup safety of aluminum wiring? - You made some good points on the differences between Al and Cu. Just to further clarify, Cu has both and electrical and thermal conductivity that is nearly 65% greater than that of Al. Not only does conduct electrons better, Cu ability to dissipate heat is far greater than that of aluminum. Cu does oxide at room temperature, but rather slowly. Further, Cu oxide (CuO) does not form a t...

gaikokujinkyofusho@gmail.com - Finding home architects that specialize in energy efficient homes? - Hi, I am looking into energy efficient homes, trying to absorb as much as possible about the various technologies out there but am a bit overwhelmed. I have "interviewed" a few local (NC) architects and *I* seem to know more about the technologies (not necessarily cutting edge either) than they do (not encouraging). Is there a way to find architects (like maybe an association of home...

clewis@nortelnetworks.com (Chris Lewis) - Re: Info to backup safety of aluminum wiring? - According to Ralph Hertle : > The AL metal its a superior conductor, and it is durable and easy > to work and install. AL is a poorer conductor. Simple physics. Look it up. That's why it has to be a guage larger than copper for the same ampacity. It's reasonably durable, but not only is it stiffer (both because it is stiffer than copper to begin with...

TravisRogers - headgear for clearing building lot - Hi All, I'm using a chainsaw to clear some heavy overgrowth on a building site. I bought one of the Husqvarna hard hats with the protective face cover and ear protectors. It worked great for a few days, then the square mounting slots in the helmet (where the faceshield and hearing protectors mount) cracked open. I could not keep the face shield assembly securely mounted. I wen...

"Harry Muscle" - Re: Info to backup safety of aluminum wiring? - The problem with AL wiring in homes is at the connections ... transmission lines would obvioulsy have very different connection systems in place compared to your average home. There is for example an approved and tested method of making aluminum wire connections to copper wire using an COPALUM tool. Chances are something similar, but on a bigger scale, is done with transmission lines ....

"butch burton" - Open web floor trusses - Planning on building a new house - talked to a HVAC guy and he said open web trusses are the way to go - makes his job much easier. Any problems with them - any difference between metal webs and wooden webs - seems to be more room for things with the metal webs. Also I suppose the field trimmable ones are better. Am going to put down 3/4" strip oak & maple flooring over most and...

paminifarm3@netscape.net - Re: How to clean grout - Hello, The "black" you see is mold and dangerous to your health. Every 25 feet you must screw in Tiantium Dioxide bulbs (get the broad spectrum) before you spend any time in that house. You must leave the bulbs on 24/7/365. An ozone generator (cost close to $500.00) will be needed and the very best thing you can do to kill the mold, thus save your health. A UV-C lamp in each bedroom, o...
