] [ 151677 ] [ alt.building.construction ] [ view full article ] "Steve Kachaylo" - Re: thinking of heating my garage floor and new slab with infloor heating, is this doable? - Heating the entire slab may result in a condition known as "hot foot". Your feet and ankles are not accustomed to standing on a warm surface. Should you go this route, however, you only need to heat the perimeter of the slab inward about 2 to 3 feet. Center sections have no substantial heat loss (or gain). And preferably, insulate below the perimeter areas to minimize the loss. ... |

Old beams bend and become like the bow of a boat. They want to retain their U shape, not straighten out. The cut allows the beam to become more straight. Sounds like they know what ... |

Ridge beams are supported by the rafters, though in some instances, collar ties may be required. The "supporting post" would be used to hold the ridge board (not beam) until the opposing rafters are installed. . ... |

I like a 4' overhang outward because I don't like to have another set of posts at the edge of the deck, that way, my two level deck will share just one set of posts, with the top level edge flush with the posts and the bottom level bigger, and outward ... |

Heating outdoors will be throwing money away and may not work if it is on the garage loop. It would be like keeping your doors and windows open all winter. An electric coil outside might be better for control and other issues. Heating the garage would be a waste ... |
