Our house under construction uses an Xtraordinair Model 44 Elite. This thing looks like a First Class unit. It's also expensive (I believe about $3K) and heavy (about 700lbs) Smaller units are available. http://www.fireplacextrordinair.com/product.asp?dept_id=3&pf_id=2 |

Most people use box gutters and they look nice. Not to mention the cost................ As Rico stated; I know of no flexible gutters. You could have something fabricated, but it won't come free. An extension was added onto the existing structure about 20 years ago. I will only be replacing ~400 sq of siding which is about 1/3 of total exterior exposure (other sides are shared w/ neighbors). Per Hardiplank specs, I can't go much thicker than about 1/2" and there isn't much space with only 45" to the property fence so I would ra... |

You're right, the shingles are expensive so why not spend the money to make them last as long as possible? The first thing to decide is what grade of cedar to use, and that depends a lot on how you plan to install the material. Sticking close to the recomm... |

] [ 153340 ] [ alt.building.construction ] [ view full article ] dynamorph@hotmail.com - Cedar shingle roof question - I have an unheated porch area and I would like to cover the roof with cedar shingle. I am told that for a roof the shingles should be exposed 7" only, and that they should be installed over slats so that air can flow underneath the shingle. What's on the roof now is tarpaper over 1x12 wood roof boards. I don't have room to install slats and then flash properly afterwards. Can I i... |
