cjerickson5@hotmail.com - Re: Why are homes measured in square feet? - Had to chime in here. Sizing the proper system to heat any space has all to do about heat loss, whether from conduction, infiltration, etc. Once the heat loss is calculated, the system can be properly sized. Sizing a heating system based on square feet is rough at best. For example, a garage may be 30x30 in size but is it a non-insulated pole barn or an attached, well insulated garage. ...

jik@kamens.brookline.ma.us (Jonathan Kamens) - Re: Insurance claim paid, but damage not repaired question - If your insurance company called the garage a total loss and paid you for it, I don't think you owe them anything. You're not actually obligated to use the money they paid you to repair the insured structure.... They paid you for the loss of value caused by the damage, and it's your choice whether to actually repair it. They could have made you rebuild the garage and not paid you unt...

zher0@netcarrier.com - Bank Bait & Switch? - Over the past few weeks I have been given quite the run-around by a local bank. I locked into a good mortgage rate before they started to climb. It was for a 30yr. fixed with zero points. Two weeks after locking in I was informed by the bank that Freddie Mac requires a point on any muli-family dwellings (it will be owner occupied, though). So even though the lender never told me that...
