"Joe" - Re: Soundproofing - By the time you buy enough of that weatherstripping you will spend as much as the alternating stud wall. If the wall is 14' long, all you will need 3-14' 2X6's instead of 14' 2X4's. Two 2x6x8' for the end studs and 10 more regular studs. 40 bucks will probably do it and you will have a much better job. If the weatherstripping worked, the home builders would be using it. What are you g...

"Joe" - Re: Attic Fans - worth it? - Can you get on the roof ? Go up and hang some pieces of rope down over the discharge. If/when the fan goes on, the air coming out will blow the rope into a horizontal position which you can see from the ground. -- JerryD(upstateNY) I'll piggyback on this thread as I have a puzzler about my attic fan, and I hope the answer can help us all. I have a thermostatically (sp?) control...

"The Carters" - Re: Soundproofing - I haven't tried it yet, but a friend thought the thick weatherstriping that goes around a pickup truck camper top (1/8-1/4" x 2" by length), applied to the noisy room side of each stud would deaden the sheetrock vibration before it was transferred to the studs. May not do as much as alternating studs but it would be much cheaper... "Craig" wrote in message ...

"gavin lambourne" - Cracked brick wall - Our porch was hit by a neighbour's car rolling back. There are cracks along the jointing diagonally upwards from the bottom of the door to the corner of the window. There are a a few lines of cracked mortar. A couple of bricks nearest the bottom of the door have moved inwards by about half an inch which, in turn, has cracked the plaster board on the inside of the porch. As you get f...

tbasc@bellsouth.net - Re: Soundproofing - Dan & Jim have good advice. I would add: Stagger electric outlets so there is at least one stud between. This eliminates flanking path. Use SABj (sound attenuating blankets) which are more dense than standard fiber insulation. Caulk or gasket between bottom plate and floor. Arrange ducting to eliminate direct sound path with registers in adjacent rooms connected to same duct. TB ...

"Craig" - Soundproofing - We are building a house and we have a great room right next to one of the bedrooms. We want to put a little extra soundproofing on the wall between the 2 rooms. "Joe" - Re: slab thickness - Don't they measure or test that by measuring the "slump?" ************************************************************* Yes they do but if the concrete measures a 6 slump, there is no way to take water out of the concrete.
