HerHusband - Re: Building a simple home that will last. - > How difficult is building with block? > Does it take a lot of experience? The inside and outside surfaces are then parged with a cement mixture containing fiberglass fibers. From what I read it was ...

HerHusband - Re: Building a simple home that will last. - > Designing from scratch is fun, and don’t allow me to dissuade you. > But from a practical standpoint, it’s inefficient. We designed our own house to best accomodate our building site. Before this, we sifted through stacks and stacks of home plan books and couldn't find anything even remotely close to what we were looking for. However, it DID take us about 5-10 years to decide o...

"Michel" - Re: attaching stucco metal lath to new joists - Hello Ricod, Understand that it might be easiest to just take down this outside stucco ceiling and start over...the shoring and old joist removal has already been done....is another alternative to screw new metal diamond lath on top of the old stucco and apply new stucco? Or is the hassle of trying to drill through the old stucco into the new ceiling joists too much of a hassle? ...

"clintonG" - Re: Moving Water From A Garage Floor With No Drain - Ah I didn't clue in to the details. I still wouldn't score the slab. Our slab (in Wisconsin) raises and falls with freeze thaw cycles and yours probably does too even if imperceptibly. Scoring the slab will weaken it and the imperceptible heaving could crack it to pieces. At least the cracks would follow the scored cuts ;-) <%= Clinton Gallagher "John Gregory"

"ipol" - Crawl space wall - Hello all - I'm building a couple small spec houses in central NC. Because of the steep grade, I stepped the masonry portion of the foundation down to save some money. I then framed the rest of the foundation walls to floor height with 2 x 4 studs @ 16" centers. The back walls are ~ 7' tall and are supporting one floor, a roof and ceiling. I am using engineered roof trusses and floo...

"clintonG" - Re: Moving Water From A Garage Floor With No Drain - Your current idea is a disaster waiting to happen. Snow and ice will find its way into the scores and freeze-thaw cycles will crack and break up the surface of the slab. Furthermore, you'd have to be a Michaelangelo to ...

"Donna" - Re: Outhouse Plans in Grate Demand ! - In a certain southern college town around 1977, all you had to do was tell them (the Mormons, too) you attended the church of Christ, and they'd get out of the door as quick as they could. The Bible knowledge reputation got around fast. Donna BasketWeaver wrote: > I tell them I'm Catholic; they wish me a good day and leave. BW (I'm really > Baptist) > > "Cyberbilly"
