M&S - Re: Cutting larger timbers - We just finished a large cedar pergola for a customer which had tails cut very much the way you are describing. In my opinion the only way to cut them is with a router. Any type of bandsaw will be cumbersome and keeping all the tails the same will be very tough but thats just been my experience with portabands. The only way I could see the bandsaw producing an acceptable end result ...

"GLT" - Re: Cutting larger timbers - Go to your local building suppy rental yard, and rent a Beam Saw...it will cut 8X's with no worrys, just be careful as there isn't a clutch in those like in the skill saws, i.e. the blade takes awhile to stop. "Robert A. Cibiras" - Owens Corning vs. GAF shingles - I am in need of a new roof. I was initially sold on OC Weatherguard HP, which carry a 130 mph wind resistance warranty when installed with Weatherguard hip and ridge shingles. As I look at the hip and ridge shingles, there appears to be about a 1" space between the dimemsional portions of each shingle that might allow air to get under it, thus increasing it's chances of failur...

Bob Morrison - Re: Any Reccomendations for a Tankless to Support Single Bathroom? - In a previous post Matt Whiting says... > Whether they waste energy or not all depends. > One other consideration is the amount of water that is wasted. If you are on a well, then the water that goes down the drain and into the septic system must be pumped at a cost of energy. If not on a well, then that water has to come from somewhere. "SidKnee" - Underfloor Heating - Cieling height? - I am considering installation of UFH into our bungalow for the first time. I have a couple of doubts as whether it would give me the required heat output. I think there appears to be a fair amount of experince in this group and would be most gratful for guidance. What is Building Controls minimum FFL to cieling height requirement? Reason I ask this is that although I have an existing...

I wanted to move back the stairway 3-4 ft and put in a 3-4 ft landind at the top of the stairs. Then I got to thinking, could I extrend the width of the landing so it over...
