My goal was to find an island to relax for a week with a lot of sand and minimal requirements for swimwear. I found it on St. Martin (French West Indies). Another thing that attracted me to the island was that it is actually split between two countries (Guadeloupe and Nethe... |

First, it's relatively large for a Caribbean island, some 135 miles long and 50 miles wide. Second, it has the tallest mountains in the Caribbean... these factors mean you can enjoy a lush, rainforest type environment on the extreme east end to an arid environment on the west end. The mountains are amazing, with wild flowers that are stun... |

] [ 122129 ] [ rec.travel.caribbean ] [ view full article ] "dlg" - Moorings - I would definitely advise against the Moorings and especially in the Grenadines. The boats are in poor repair, the base is a logistical nightmare and the staff is, at best disorganized and at worst, incompetent. The appeal for us was the direct flight to Cannouan. It is not worth it in retrospect. Realistically you lose a night each way because of the difficulty of loading and unloading ... |

Many people, for one reason or another, do not attract "skeets, sandflies and no-see-ums". We travel frequently with another couple who are immune, while we have to use the strongest deet repellent. Do not take a chance. Buy good repellent before you go. Just in case. G . ... |

I'd go to the Central American country of Costa Rica. I'd skip the Caribbean side, tour the inside of the country and the Pacific West Coast. We've done this 5 times. We've been to the Caribbean at least 15 times. We like St. Martin/St. Marteen. Jamaica is wonderful if you skip Montego Bay, etc. Try a Windjammer Barefoot Cruise and see several ... |
