Mold is caused either by water intrusion or retention of moisture within the home. Both conditions can be remedied ... either by closing the gaps where water is intruding or by improving ventilation within the home. Does the home have a stucco exterior ... if so, there can be problems with the stucco material itself or (more likely in our area) with the flashing where the windows, doors etc meet the exterior cladding. If the problem is caused by interior moisture retention, you'll need to investigate how to improve air circulation -- maybe an air exchange system. A more serious issue, IMO, is repairing the damage that may have occurred within the infrastructure of the home. For example, if there's mold that's within the wall structure, you may wood rot within the studs, headers, etc. If you were my client, I'd be concerned that it can be very difficult |
