I am an agent who was working in NY, but about 6 months ago I moved to Florida, obtained a license here and am doing quite well. My question is E&O insurance. It seems that insurance in general is cheeper in Florida (auto, health, life, etc.) This does not seem to be the case with E&O insurance. In NY the Brokers procured E&O insurance and divided the cost by the number of agents on staff at the time of the policy renewal. New agents had to pau a pro-rated amount the first year, the brokers as arule did not refund the "unused premium" if an agent dropped out or left the company - fair enough in my mind. The average Long Island, NY agent pays about $200.00 per year ($175-250 depending on the broker, his office and policy) regardless of the number of transactions they have. In my part of Florida, the agents are charged E&O by their brokers on each transaction. The range is from $25.00 - to $40.00. |
