I would agree a person received a service/value from the house they live in. If I pay $350,000 for my house, receive 30 years of living space from it, end up paying off the mortgage, then sell the house for $250,000, there is $250,000 cash I have in hand which I wouldn't get if I did not own the house. additional points- to make the $250,000 it cost me $350,000 in my mortgage, plus another $600,000 in interest, but I was going to have a rent payment anyway, so that money wasn't going to be "saved". The value of the home I am living in is not important IF I can make the payment and if I intend to pay off the mortgage. . |
