Scanning the web real estate for sale now in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area, there are plenty of homes in the 200-300 range. Can even get a NEW one at this price. Lets see, if I were to take out 15 year mortage on 200K at 5.5%, - Loan Amount: $200000 - Interest Rate: 5.5% - Term of Loan: 15 Total interest paid over life of loan: $94,150.04 Why pay 100K more when I can pay all up front! My job is fine right now. I am an engineer. The Melbourne area is full of high tech jobs. The Space Coast is known as a high-tech center of the Southeast. NY doesn't have much of this kinda work. I am lucky to be workin now! We love the ocean, and are both about 40. If I wait any longer I'll be trapped in NY till retirement.
