My first tax auction, in Texas, I bought two small lots for $100. I had done a sloppy job of due diligence and thought I was bidding on this old house that was falling down. Actually, I hadn't even noticed the lots were only like 25 ft by 50 ft. There were two end to end. It turned out they were camper lots sold at the State Fair of Texas during the forties. They were too far from the lake to be good for camping so people just put several lots together and built a residential neighborhood. The streets in the designed camping development were trails about 5 foot wide and too narrow for autos. So some of the lots became the street. My two lots had a street over the top of them. I owned the lot, but the city had easement to the road that covered most of my 25 ft. lots. I had about 100 ft of drainage ditch with utility easement that wasn't asphalt. |
