I was just wondering if there is a better way to accomplish > this. Yes...use your cash for a down payment. The interest deduction requires you to spend about $3 for every $1 you get back. That is a awful deal. It is OK if you have to pay the interest anyway, but it is insane to go out of your way to spend on interest and points just to get the deduction. If you put down a cash down payment, you avoid the interest altogether. That might also help you qualify for a better loan, so you may save on PMI and interest over the life of the loan. -john- -- |
