I have seen people get their stuff flooded out and picked over by rodents. You want to make sure nothing sits on the ground or on concrete since that will pick up moisture and ruin the bottom layer of stuff. Look for a place with wooden floors, a place that is built up above grade (or the 2nd floor), and one that is both heat and humidity controlled. Finally, some places advertise 24 hour access. Don't go for it--that just lets the criminal in 24 hours a day.
