Strange Tax-Sale, Forclosure Mess in NJ

This has been posted by the artist formerly (and shortly) known as "headshot" Phillipsburg, NJ (property will be recognized by anyone familiar with the area) On a major highway (route 22) 3 commercial units on base floor, 8 apartments upstairs. Brick, flat roof, good location in a town trying to rehab, improve image. 1999-2002 - Landlord is letting place go to hell, there is an adult bookstore as tenant. Town sees that the sidewalks are "hazardous". Gives landlady citation. Every day for 2 years. She owes $29,000 in fines, hundreds of thousands in taxes, is threatened with jail. She signs the property over to the Clerk of the Superior court of NJ. Nobody has ever seen this done to pay a fine, according to those involved. Town itself goes ape, starts forclosure on taxes. They get judgement of forclosure, but before finalized, some nobody buys one of the tax liens for |
