why are mortgage rates falling as interest rates hikes are occuring?

I just dont get it.... Fed has raised the rate to 2.5% with no hint of stopping yet.... But mortage rates and yields on 10 year notes are either falling or at the very least staying the same It's like the market thinks the fed is wrong, that something will happen that will cause them to drop rates very quickly again.... Is my thinking correct? basically the market is calling the fed out saying these rate hikes are very temporary and that we will be back at 1% (after a series of rates cuts) in short order.....??? I just dont get it, if this continues soon there will be an inverted yield curve on notes.... the 2 year note yield has been rapidly rising, whilest the 10 year has actually fallen significally over the last 6 months *scratches his head* . |
