A lot of people assume it was 9/11, but it actually went into effect about a week prior to that. The problem is that our store is not in a great area, and in 2000, our store took in $50,000 in bad checks. So, the first step was reduce cash back to $10. That eliminates a lot of thieves right there. Losses went down, but not enough, so they took out the cash back altogether. If you want cash back, it has to be approved by a manager, and not too many people get that. I'm a long-time employee, and they look offended if I ask for a lousy $10 back.
