It's hard to visualize what you're faced with when you mention "What I would like to do is tear down one of the bedrooms and get my garage back". If you remove one bedroom will you be able to open the garage door ? Anywho, the problems you could run into are: a) Live wiring - shut off all the power b) Live plumbing - where is the bathroom ? c) Development commission - altering a living space, even undoing something like that, may require a permit, esp in CA, if someone finds out, so to speak. d) A garage and a living area have to have a fire wall between them (again this may vary by location), so if you tear out part of the living space you may be left without a fire wall, which is a code problem. The demolition though is pretty simple, just start by peeling the drywall off the portion you don't want anymore. Then you'll find the wiring and any other mysteries. . |
