Bought a house w/ a hot tub, have some maintenance questions

OK, I just bought a house that has a hot tub. I've never owned a hot tub before so I really have no idea how to take care of it. Of course I plan on going to a local pool and spa outfit to get some advice from them, but what concerns me is that I won't know if they're giving me the straight scoop on how to take care of it, or if they're just trying to sell me a bunch of stuff that I don't really need. Here's what I know. It's a Marquis Spa, Recreational Series. I don't know what specific model or how old it is, but the house was built in '98 and the hot tub was added after the fact, so I'm guessing it's probably a '99 or '00. I found a "Marquis Spa Water Treatment Guide" booklet in the garage, so I do have a little bit of reference information, but again, same problem as above; I have no way of knowing if what's in the booklet is the straight scoop, or if it's meant to sell me a bunch of Marquis Spa supplies. |
