"Only if he intends to rent it out. If he doesn't then what's the concern? " Are you that dense? I gave you an example of a local guy here in NJ that built a deck without a permit. The building inspector saw it, fined him and made him tear it out. He wasn't renting the deck out. Just because some people get away with it doesn't me this guy should get involved and buy what appears to be an illegal conversion and not worry about it. The seller is likely hoping to find someone dumb enough not to know any better. When this guy goes to sell, he may not be so lucky. What's so special about this house that's worth the risk? If it wasn't done with permits, there could very well be major issues that aren't going to be easy to make conform to code. The biggest could be that a conversion into essentially a two family may not even be permitted by zoning. |
