See, this is still a relatively free economy. People are free to make choices. Getting an A/C compressor fixed by a guy you know who does work part time is one of the choices out there. It's no more evil than buying something on Ebay. Does the Ebay vendor have a shop? Do you know if he's paying his taxes? Do you know where the product came from and that it wasn't stolen?
