We had a similar situation with a gas dryer made by maytag. It turned out that a part inside the dryer drum had developed some rust and this was transferring to clothing when we dried the clothes. Try a visual ispection of the inside of the washer and dryer for any signs of rusted parts. In our case the rusted part was a small piece that could be replaced, allowing the dryer to be used for many more years.
