Thanks to all that have answered. I dont know there are sites that give back buyer bonuses to cover closing costs, which is pretty much what I negotiated. I dont know the legality of that, I had a house that I found and since they wont show it to regular buyers I had to go through an agent. It was an easy transaction for the agent and if I had any sense I'd probably gone with one of those online agencies which gives back one percent commission without any negotiations. He first agreed to 2% and then after I met him, said he wanted 1.5% because he had to "negotiate" and not just drive to show me the house. This agent belongs to an agency that does flat-fee something -ie., brokers pay a flat fee for the privilege of keeping 100% of the 3% commission. So he is not really stealing from the brokerage. I got hassled when my lawyer said he might be and that we should complain to |
