I think it has to do with a couple of things. Primarily, they're different, and I think that attracts people sick of seeing the same old thing. Secondly, I believe there is a misconception about the efficiency of that type of building. A sphere is the most efficient way of enclosing a given volume with a minimum of surface area (wall/roof). I think that this is misconstrued by many people into believing that the dome will be the most cost effective way to build. Unfortunately, the entire building industry is based on rectangular sheet goods. There will be a _lot_ of cutting, seams, and waste with any geodesic dome. The whole geodesic dome thing doesn't make much sense to me either. If |
