The Hardie stuff gotten locally is typically pre-primed. The amount of paint needed also depends on the surface type you get from Hardie. The rougher the surface, more paint. Same with cedar. So its difficult to answer your question. Painted surfaces being repainted same general color take much less paint. Unless paint peeling to the wood is present, then you're starting from scratch in those areas. You said your home already has cedar siding. Although more labor intensive, I prefer painting Hardie stuff by hand. Especially in the case of horizontal lap siding with a rougher surface. This assures a uniform coat spraying cannot do. If you intended to live in the house instead of selling, would recommend that.
