Last year my wife and I built a 1456 square foot house for $60K. But, we did ALL the work ourselves, and all utilities (power, water, sewer, phone, etc.) were already available on the site. We live in SW Washington state. Assuming you paid an equivalent amount for labor, you could easily have a 1450 sq/ft house in your price range in our area (not counting the cost of the property, and prepping the site; drill a well, septic install, etc.). In fact, I often see builders in our area advertising that they'll build homes (1700-2000 sq/ft) for under $100K. Granted, you only have a few plans to choose from, and the fit and finish is rather low budget. But, it's possible if cost is the primary concern. Anthony . |
