> Whatever happened to metal-frame windows? No rust, no warp, no termites, > no paint . . . We had aluminum frame windows (with the "bronze" finish) on our first house, built in 1983. They held up very well, no rotting. The only problems we had with them was frosting and condensation on the inside frames in very cold (less than 10 deg F weather). They were in great condition when we moved after living there about 15 years. No rot in the windows or the sills (unlike this house... it has wood windows, and several have had replacements and rot repair and new sills in its 15 year life). Another slight problem with metal is that they look a little more "office building" style. The metal exposed to the outside weather may also begin to show a tarnish (slight corrosion) after 20 years or so. There's no good way to fix that. But it will probably be stable for decades in that condition. Max . |
