Garage interior framing questions

I have an attached two car garage with the two doors on the slope side of the garage versus the gable end side. I want to be able to have the garage be open on one side to the rafters to be able to install a car lift. Is it necessary to have joists from the front to rear of the garage? I think they are needed to keep the sidewalls from blowing out against the rafters push against the ridge board but I'm not sure. Is there a way I can alleviate using joists? I was thinking I could cut 1/2" ply panels in a triangular shape and fasten them at the ridge and to the rafters so there is some support against the outward force. I thought they might have to be about 2' top to bottom and whatever the rafter pitch requires for the side cuts. Would that work? If I used something like one microlam running from the front to back as a main joist in the center of the garage between the two |
