If it needs to be nailed, then concrete is not what you want to nail to. if it can be attached with construction adhesive or snaps together to form a "floating" floor system then it should be just fine as long as no moisture problems exist. The retailer is trying to sell you something and may never have actually installed it themselves. The contractor has real experience but with this product? He may be generalizing what he knows about other similar looking products. Have you contacted the manufacturer. They will be the ones bearing the warranty if something goes wrong and will want you to do it properly, thus will give the most useful advise.
