If you scribe an arc of 57 5/16" on a sheet of plywood and cut it on the curve, each inch around the arc is 1 degree. This is a good "field" protractor. It's pretty accurate for laying out footings, walls, ect. Even 30 seconds is a ½" difference almost 5'. Obviously not as accurate as a transit but close enough for field work. -- Joe you can do that on an 8x11. or the back of an envelope, or the hood of yer truck..or on your girlfriends hot pants. anywhere. you can also get a pretty lose read pacing this sort of thing off in a parking lot on sight lines, the put a protractor on the sight line, or use a transit for a dead nuts accurate read. you can also do this with graph paper. use one sqaure to represent each foot etc. If you dont have a protractor or tansit you can measure the angle with folded paper. then mark it off into a circle and divide the segments into 360 |
