If you can't afford the survey then I would walk away. Even if you do have a survey done the report may just say that he can't be sure what the cause is without digging down to expose and check the foundations are sound (= even more cost). He won't be able to peel off the new wallpaper inside to see if the crack is much bigger inside. If you are still really keen ask the seller if they will pay for a full survey or a Structural Engineer to come and look at the crack. Make sure they use your choice and not a friend of the family. If you are taking out a mortgage the company may want a valuation report done. Be aware that these are very different to a full survey. Their purpose |
