If you're getting satellite broadcast, you need both. Satellite doesn't offer local channels. You'll need a local antenna as well for local channels. They need a general idea where you want this antenna so they know where to terminate the wiring. You have to get with the satellite install people to know where the satellite dish will be. Yes, there's big physical difference between cable, and standard TV antenna dual wire cable. If you feel too embarassed, go to your local Radio Shack and inquire. If you're geting cable service, you just need cable. Same for cable internet, satellite internet. Consider a LAN connection in each bedroom/living area while you're at it with CAT 5 wiring. Hope you've thought out your phone service jack requirements. If your stereo has surround sound, you should immediately consider putting the surround speaker wires in the wall right now.
