First, I would be very interested to hear how the bricks collapse. That is, do they squeeze down or break apart or shift? I can offer two guesses: The square holes may, as EagleMtn suggests, be a point that accumulates stress when the material changes dimension in the heat. There may not be enought material to support the weight of the brick above. I'd save a few of the brick to look at how each one changes shape and perhaps photograph the kiln when opened to look at the way the brick piles collapse. I find this fascinating. TB . |
