I'm not sure if this is the right forum to seek advice, but I'll describe my problem and maybe someone can help. I'm planning to build a 12' X 16' shed. I plan to anchor it on piers to save the cost of a poured slab. I live in Alabama so the frost level of the ground is not a problem. I plan to dig 9 holes and use concrete forms to make piers 1 1/2 feet below ground and 1 foot above ground. Apparently from what I have read there appears to be two ways to anchor the rim joists. 1. Lay the joists on a metal post anchor that is secured to either a J bolt that was put in the cement pier when it was still wet or let the cement dry and then anchor the post anchor with a power load and nail it to the pier. 2. The second method is to put a 4" X 4" post in the center for the concrete form and pour the cement around it. Leave a couple of nails sticking out of the post in the wet cement. Then nail a double 2" X 4" rim joist to the post. |
